Jane Todd Butcher

Originally from the Midwest, Jane Todd Butcher earned her degree in Art from Illinois State University, and since that time she has made her home in Greenville SC. Although through her career she has worked many mediums, most of her current works utilize layers of acrylic paint and acrylic inks in vibrant colors and textures, on a variety of surfaces. She often incorporates rice papers and other collage elements in her paintings, and may include charcoal or pastel as well. She often starts a painting without a pre-conceived composition in mind—allowing the random colors and textures of the surface to suggest the images that evolve.

 April 17 * Demo by

Rebecca Kahrs Willis (Dragonfly Gallery)

My passion for watercolor is ignited by the way the medium captures light.  The transparent washes create a luminosity found in no other medium.  I'm constantly challenged to discover the individual properties and individual "personalities" of the pigments and how I can create the cleanest, most striking combinations of light and color.  In my painting, I strive to see the true color in not only the objects, but in the shadows and reflections.

May * demo by Barbara Walter on Rules & Regulations on copywriting along with watercolor & pen quick painting  * click on images to enlarge

June * Katherine Phillips - demo on creation & development of a Contraption Painting

Followed by a workshop for those who have signed up

Asheville artist Kathryn B. Phillips has always challenged her surroundings. Her art mimics her life: by letting go of others’ expectations, as well as her own, Phillips has found harmony in the constant struggle to nurture freedom while still respecting the boundaries of good design.

The strength of her work lies in her ability to take inflexible structures and transform them. Her freedom and spontaneity delivers color, and fluidity to the playful shapes and surfaces. Phillips ignores the temptation to conform with her art; instead, she embraces her own unique perspective and allows the medium to guide her creative process.
